Wonderful Web-sight!  When I was born my folks lived right across the street from the city park where the Burgoo is held. I remember playing in that park with Willard Peck's son Dennis and Willard Peck's filling station where we would go to buy candy.  At one time there was also a church on the city park block and Dennis and I got in trouble one time for going in and running on the pews.  My father, Arthur Schlueter, is one of the World War II Veterans.  Thank you for bringing back the fond memories of Arenzville.  I also remember going to the Lutheran Church there.  We moved to Beardstown right before I started school but every year after that we never missed "The World's Best Burgoo"!

Does anyone remember Harold Emerick? My grandfather, Leo Jones, a lifelong Arenzville resident, asked Harold to give me a ride in his dump truck when they were paving the Beardstown blacktop. Made an impression on me, as I'm a trucker today.

Just reviewing site, but enjoying so far.  My Grandfathers family came from Germany to several places in Cass County.  Hackman & Jokisch are main surnames.  My Grandmother has many memories of the area and plans to visit several places soon.  She is 92 and just became a hockey fan so you can tell how active she is.  Thanks for the site.  I'll be checking it out some more and hope to find some great info for Grandma as well as myself.

My friends and I from Beardstown waited all year for the burgoo.  My family and I lived close to Arenzville and we knew many people from there.  I would like to say hello to Terri Lee Lovekamp, my old beau, his mom and dad, Glen and Doris, brothers, Jim and Rick.  Also my old buddy Jimmy Morrison.  Does anyone remember Wild Bill Talkemeyer and Bobby?  Remember the plane and landing in the field? I have wonderful memories of the burgoo...hello to everyone and I have enjoyed this site very much...SJ

I travel through your little burg occasionally.  Used to speed through it every day on my way to Virginia.  Nice town with a lot of positives--that's Arenzville, not Virginia, though Virginia is nice, too.  Keep up the small-town traditions that make Arenzville a great place to live.

I've never even heard of Arenzville, but I accidentally happened upon this site one day, and got a big surprise. It seems the love of my life had family in Arenzville, and she goes there once a year with her family for this festival or something. They travel there apparently from O'Fallon, IL.. It has been a really long time since I have seen her or even talked to her, but if she sees this message, she will know who it is from. Just in case she does I want to say that I still love her, and I have never stopped. Just in case I never get to talk to her again. 12.03.

I have been trying to find veterans of the 3890th Quartermaster Truck Company of which my father, Ralph Julian Simpson, of Mexia (Monroeville) Alabama, was a member (Truck Driver Heavy 931)  He was wounded and received his Purple Heart at the GO 77 HQ 12th EVAC HOSP on Nov. 27, 1944, in France.  He received the WWII Victory Medal; European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars. I would like to know if any Veterans still living in your area might have known my Father.  Thank you so much.

Never say never!!! I never thought I would live in Illinois again and NEVER thought I would wind up in Beardstown only 12 miles from Arenzville and it's rival...but I did!! God has His plans and there is nothing that can stop Him!!! I have six siblings ...five live in rural Arenzville and the big city of Beardstown and the sixth lives just two hours away. Last year our parents died just four months apart. If you knew Don and Sadie Logan, be assured that they went with family at their sides. I plan on seeing some old friends at the Burgoo this year. Let's hope the weather cooperates!
